Enhanced Access Service

The Extended Access Service is an extension of your GP practice providing GP and nurse appointments for patients in north Southwark.

GP practices in north Southwark are working together to deliver the extra appointments so you may not see your usual doctor but they will work regularly in Southwark and have the same skills. With your consent, any doctor or nurse you see can access your healthcare record to ensure they can offer the right treatment.

Our Friends and Family Test feedback for both 2018 and 2019 highlighted that over 90% of patients surveyed were likely or extremely likely to recommend the service.

What do we offer?

The Extended Access Service currently offers three services:

The Extended Access Service is to be used when an on the day or next day appointment is needed but there are no appointments available at your regular GP practice. We have GP appointments available 8am – 8pm, seven days a week.

We offer additional nurse appointments every Thursday and Saturday for cervical smears, immunisations and more!

Routine nursing appointments are now being offered at the EPCS. The clinics will run on Thursdays and alternate Saturdays and will be in addition to the existing dressing clinic on Saturdays.

A list of the services offered are:

Cervical smears

Childhood immunisations

Typhoid and tetanus vaccinations for travel

Pertussis vaccinations for pregnant women

Ear irrigation

Wound care

NHS health checks

Hypertension reviews

Patients will need to be triaged for travel vaccinations, to ensure that they are appropriate for EPCS. All other appointments can be directly booked by practice administration staff. For wound care, please ask patients to bring their dressings with them.

How do I get an appointment?

If you would like a GP or nurse appointment, simply contact your GP practice in the usual way and ask them to book you in at the Extended Access Service.

When your practice is closed you can still get support. You can get expert medical advice and useful information by calling NHS 111 or through 111 online.  The NHS service is available 24 hours a day and can provide patient information, issue prescriptions to a pharmacy of your choice, book an appointment at your GP practice or at the Extended Access Service, and, if necessary, refer people to emergency services.
